William Jefferson Clinton

William Jefferson Clinton was born William Jefferson Blythe III in Hope, Arkansas, and raised in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

After Oxford, Clinton attended Yale Law School and obtained a Juris Doctor degree in 1973. While at Yale, he began dating law student Hillary Rodham who was a year ahead of him. They married in 1975 and their only child, Chelsea, was born in 1980.

In 1978, Bill Clinton was elected Governor of Arkansas for the first time prior to losing to Frank White in the 1980 election. In 1982, Clinton reclaimed his old job as governor and kept it for another 10 years, helping Arkansas transform its economy and significantly improving the state's educational system.

In 1993, Bill Clinton became the forty-second President of the United States, serving from 1993 to 2001. Clinton served nearly twelve years as the 50th and 52nd Governor of Arkansas. He was the third-youngest person to serve as president, behind Theodore Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy.

The National Governors Association (NGA) is an organization of the governors of the fifty U.S. states and five U.S. territories (American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands). NGA is one of Washington's most respected[citation needed] public policy organizations and serves as a key liaison between the state governments and the federal government. NGA provides governors and their senior staff members with services that range from representing states on Capitol Hill and at the White House when discussing federal issues to developing policy reports on state programs and hosting networking seminars for state executive branch officials. The NGA has adopted a policy (since 1977, and many consecutive years prior to 1965) that control of the chair is rotated each year between either a Republican or a Democratic governor, so that neither party can control the position for two consecutive years. The vice chair is usually of the opposite party to the chair, and generally assumes the role of chair the following year.

Chelsea Victoria Clinton (born February 27, 1980) is the daughter and only child of former US President Bill Clinton and United States Senator Hillary Clinton. She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her name was inspired by her parents' fondness for Judy Collins's recording of the Joni Mitchell song "Chelsea Morning".

In Arkansas, Chelsea attended Forest Park Elementary School, Booker Arts Magnet Elementary School and Horace Mann Junior High School. In Washington, she attended Sidwell Friends School. She received her undergraduate degree in history from Stanford University and a graduate degree from Oxford. She has made few public comments on her upbringing but has said that her parents were "firm but fair."
